Ensuring Safety and Singleness of Purpose in AA Meetings – A message from Area B and Canberra CSO

In response to recent inquiries, we’d like to address two important topics that continue to raise questions in our fellowship: safety and the principle of “Singleness of Purpose” in AA meetings. These conversations highlight a growing interest in ensuring that meetings remain safe, supportive, and consistent with AA Traditions. In this blog, we’ll provide resources that will help guide your group’s operation while addressing key safety considerations within meetings.

We’ve compiled a selection of documents for Group members to review. These resources cover critical topics, such as the role of the Chairperson, the responsibilities of group members, and the broader role AA members play in creating and maintaining a strong sense of safety and purpose in our meetings.

Looking ahead, Area B and the Canberra CSO are planning to deliver some workshops. These workshops will serve as an opportunity for members to engage in discussions on effective meeting management, the “Singleness of Purpose” principle, and the responsibilities of the Chairperson and group members. Stay tuned for further updates.

For a deeper dive into these topics, we’ve attached several key documents, including the AA Group Handbook, Section 2 of the AA Service Manual, and guidelines on meeting safety. You can also access the full AA Service Manual on our website, along with the AA Safeguarding Policy, which ensures the safety of all members. We encourage you to review these resources and share them with your group to foster a stronger, safer AA community.

Yours in Service,

Amy (CSO) and Pip (Area B)
